Vance Brown has a passion for building teams that exhibit high moral character, that care for employees and the customer, and that achieve long-term success and profitability. Vance has been very successful leading companies from startup to maturity. From 1996 —2000, Vance was President and CEO of GoldMine Software Corporation (formerly Bendata, Inc. and currently FrontRange Solutions®—the makers of HEAT® and ITSM Service Desk solutions, and GoldMine® contact manager). The company was a leading, worldwide developer of software solutions for customer relationship management (CRM) and support management solutions. Under Vance’s leadership, the HEAT® product went from a rating by the Gartner Group as a “niche” player to the "market leader" in both “ability to execute” and “vision.” GoldMine® won numerous industry awards, including the coveted Inc. 500 award for multiple years and the GoldMine® product was PC Magazine Editor’s Choice 4 consecutive times. During Vance's tenure, the company grew from $12 million in annual revenue to approximately $65 million with consistent profitability and the company was recognized as one of the top 100 software companies in the United States.
Vance earlier served for 5 years as President and CEO of UFAB, Inc. (became BuildNet, Inc.) of Research Triangle Park, N.C. Vance lead this company, with its "BuildSoft" product line, from two employees and an unknown product into a multi-million dollar company rated in a national survey at the time as having the leading integrated software system for the building industry.
Vance began his career as a lawyer at one of the largest firms in North Carolina. He still is licensed to practice law in the District of Columbia. Vance graduated from Wake Forest University, summa cum laude, with degrees in Economics and Computer Science. He graduated from law school, with honors, from the University of North Carolina, finishing as a member of the Order of the Coif and the Law Review. In 1999, Vance completed a summer Executive Program at the Graduate School of Business at Stanford University. More recently, Vance completed a program at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Vance is involved in the Band of Brothers' ministry (www.BandofBrothers.org) and was a founder and currently serves on the Board of Directors of The Classical Academy (www.tcad20.org), the largest "brick and mortar" charter school in Colorado.
Arlen Feldman, Vice President of Technology
Arlen Feldman has been developing software for more than 20 years and has developed helpdesk • service-desk • CRM software for 14 years, almost from the very beginning of the helpdesk software industry. For several years he was the chief architect for FrontRange Solutions® (formerly Bendata, Inc. and GoldMine Software Corporation), makers of the HEAT® and ITSM helpdesk products.
Arlen is the author of ADO.NET Programming (Manning Publications), and various technical articles. He is also a member of the Microsoft C# Customer Council—a small group that advises Microsoft on the direction of .NET, Visual Studio and the C# programming language.
Timothy G. Pfeifer, Vice President and General Counsel
Timothy Pfeifer brings a broad range of experience to Cherwell. From 1998—2002, Timothy was Vice President, General Counsel and member of the senior executive team for FrontRange Solutions® (formerly Bendata, Inc. and GoldMine® Software Corporation), at a time when the company opened five international offices and grew from less than two hundred employees to more than seven hundred worldwide, and more than $70 million in annual revenue. Timothy began his career at FrontRange Solutions® as Vice President of Human Resources, and throughout his tenure was instrumental in managing the day-to-day operations of the company, including significant customer-facing and sales channel activities.
Timothy began his legal career in 1993, as a law clerk for the Honorable Eugene A. Wright, a Senior Judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. From 1994-1998, he was in private practice at Holme Roberts & Owen LLP, one of the oldest and largest Rocky Mountain law firms. Since 2003, Timothy has been a Senior Attorney for First Data Corporation, a Fortune 500 company headquartered in Denver, Colorado.
Timothy earned his J.D. degree from the University of Washington School of Law in 1993, graduating as a member of the Order of the Coif. He graduated magna cum laude from Pepperdine University in 1990, with a degree in management. Timothy has also attended an executive education program through Stanford University's Graduate School of Business.
Richard A. Mueller, CPA CFA, Vice President of Finance
Richard Mueller has a varied and extensive financial background. From 1997 to 2004 he served as CFO and Board Treasurer of The Classical Academy, the largest charter school in Colorado. During his term, Rick was instrumental with regard to two public tax-exempt bond offerings, including at $40 million transaction in 2003, at that time the largest charter school bond issuance in the nation.
He founded an independent investment advisory firm, serving clients both in Colorado and through out the country. His firm also manages a successful investment partnership that originated nearly 20 years ago.
Rick began his career as a CPA with a major public accounting firm, providing audit work for a number of Fortune 500 companies. He graduated from the University of Illinois with highest honors with a degree in Accountancy. After serving as CPA, he returned to earn an MBA from the University of Chicago, specializing in finance and international business.
After graduate school, Rick joined the research and investment firm, Duff & Phelps. He managed a research staff that conducted both equity and fixed income analysis and rose to become a Group Vice President. He also worked for First Chicago, now part of JP Morgan Chase, in the corporate planning group. He is both a CPA and CFA.
Timothy Oakley, Vice President of Business Development
Tim Oakley has over 20 years experience as a financial executive and over 15 years as an executive in the high technology areas of telecommunications, software and the internet. He has conducted over $750M in financial transactions for both public and private companies.
Prior to his current position, Tim was the CFO for CipherTrust in Atlanta, GA, the leader in email and messaging security, which grew from $5M to $50M in sales during his tenure. Before CipherTrust, Tim served as CFO of OpenSite Technologies in the Research Triangle Park of NC, an Internet auction software provider, where he led the company in the Initial Public Offering process which resulted in its acquisition by Siebel Systems for $450M.
Additional experience includes executive positions with companies such as MCI (Prior to WorldCom) and Broadband Technologies. At MCI Tim served as Director of Finance in Washington, DC and provided controller services for the company's $7 billion Consumer and Small Business unit. After MCI, he assumed the role of chief financial officer at Broadband Technologies, a publicly traded NASDAQ company in the Research Triangle Park of NC. He began his career in public accounting at Coopers and Lybrand in Raleigh, NC (Now PricewaterhouseCoopers) where he performed audit services and obtained his CPA.
Tim holds a Masters of Business Administration from Emory University and obtained his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration-Accounting concentration with honors from East Carolina University. A certified public accountant, Oakley is an active member of the American Institution of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the North Carolina Society of CPA’s.
